The toolkit draws on case studies of Bookstart colleagues in eight areas of the UK who have generously shared their experiences of working with dads in a variety of settings. Their work recognises, values and promotes the role of fathers and father figures in helping children to have the experiences and build the skills that will enable them to develop a lifelong love for books and reading. Above all the case studies speak of the need for dads to have space to explore and express with other men the special bond that exists between fathers and their children and the fun and energy that everyone is touched by through their involvement with Bookstart sessions, Sure Start groups and Family Learning initiatives.
